A message from our House Coordinator

GGHA House Coordinator, Brian Gombash

GGHA realizes that to build ice hockey in the region we need to start at the bottom and work our way up.  Our house program is designed to give families an affordable way to get into the sport.  House hockey focuses of skill development, while introducing the fun elements of the greatest sport on earth.

If your child has already completed a session in the Learn to Play program it is time to transition into House Hockey. House will expand on skill development and introduce other aspects of the game that are not taught in Learn to Play.  It is a longer season with more ice hours giving coaches more time to focus on developing players as well as team play.

The Greater Greenville Hockey Association organizes, administers, and operates youth ice hockey programs in the Upstate. GGHA's governing mission is to create "fun sports development for kids" and endeavors to instill in each participant a love; appreciation; and knowledge of the sport, the ideals of fair play and sportsmanship, the development of leadership skills, and commitment to community service.

GGHA strives, through excellence in coaching, to develop the finest youth players possible. GGHA seeks to provide a fun environment for players of all ages, levels of skill & commitment, with equal opportunity for all.

Our goal is to create an atmosphere in which players support and respect one another while never compromising the rules of the game. To encourage and expect our players and parents to respect their opponents, coaches, managers, volunteers, and officials. To exhibit good sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork and fair play.

Our organization is dependent upon the commitment and dedication of our many volunteers, which are expected to deal with one another with courtesy and mutual respect and make the game of hockey fun for all participants - to ensure that our players not only learn hockey skills but life skills that will help them be model citizens within our community.

Hockey is about community.  It is a Family.

House hockey is set up for those who are new to the game, not playing at travel level yet, don't have the time to commit to travel, or just happy with recreational level play.  Ice hockey is not an inexpensive sport, but by removing all the traveling and competition fees, this allows for a more budget friendly program for everyone to enjoy.

6U/8U and 10U/12U House consists of 1 evening weekly practice and 1 Saturday practice/game day a week. "Game Days" are internal scrimmages to help teach team concepts and introduce a game environment.  Our coaches will break the players up into equal skilled teams and have a game rotation on Saturday's.  Our "Game Days" normally start a couple of months into the season once the coaches feel the group is ready, certain skills are established, and knowledge of the rules are understood.

14U/16U development will be once a week on Fridays at 5:15pm

We also try to have a couple opportunities each season to play friendly games against other house level programs in the region.
